Rx. Puerariae Ge Gen 12g Discharges Exterior conditions and releases the muscles, especially of the neck and upper back.
With Ma Huang and Gui Zhi, for Wind-Cold with stiffness and tension in the upper back and neck.
Sm. Coicis Yi Yi Ren 10g Expels Wind-Dampness, relieves pain, clears Heat and expels pus.
Rx. Platycodi Jie Geng 9g Opens the Lungs, spreads Lung Qi, expels Phlegm, benefits the throat, expels pus and raises Lung Qi, directing the effects of other herbs to the upper body.
With Zhi Gan Cao, disseminates Lung Qi, expels Phlegm, resolves toxicity, and expels pus for productive cough with hoarseness, pain and swelling of the throat due to Wind-Heat and Lung abscess with expectoration of pus and pain in the chest and flanks.
With Zhi Gan Cao and Yi Yi Ren, for Lung abscess with chest pain, fever, cough with foul-smelling, yellow, sticky sputum.
Flos Magnolia Xin Yi 8g Expels Wind-Cold and unblocks the nasal passages.
With Shi Gao and Da Huang, for chronic sinusitis or rhinitis due to Damp-Heat.
Hb. Ephedrae Ma Huang 6-7g Induces sweating, releases the exterior, disseminates and facilitates Lung Qi, calms wheezing and stops coughing.
With Gui Zhi, for Wind-Cold Excess conditions with fever and chills but no sweat.
With Shi Gao, for cough from Heat Obstructing the Lungs with wheezing, flaring of the nostrils and fever and Wind-edema.
Rx. Paeoniae Alba Bai Shao 3-7g Nourishes Blood, regulates menstruation, astringes Yin and adjusts the Ying and Wei.
With Gui Zhi, harmonizes the Ying and Wei in Tai Yang Zhong Feng.
With Gui Zhi, Sheng Jiang and Da Zao, for Wind-Cold with Deficiency and perspiration.
Ram. Cinnamomi Gui Zhi 5-7g Releases the exterior, assists the Yang, adjusts the Ying and Wei and releases the muscle layer.
With Da Huang, for combined Interior/Exterior conditions with chills, headache, fever, sweating and abdominal fullness and pain.
Gypsum Fibrosum Shi Gao 2-4g Clears Heat in the Qi Stage, drains Fire, relieves irritability, quenches thirst and clears Excess Heat from the Lungs.
Rz. Zingiberis Recens Sheng Jiang 3-3.5g Releases the exterior, induces perspiration, disperses Cold, warms the Lungs and stops cough.
With Da Zao, for External Wind-Cold and adjusts the Ying and Wei for treatment of Tai Yang Zhong Feng.
With Gui Zhi, strongly induces sweating for treatment of External Wind-Cold with chills, fever, body aches and anhidrosis.
With Da Zao and Gui Zhi, harmonizes the Ying and Wei to drive out pathogens.
With Ma Huang, strongly creates sweating to treat all externally contracted Wind-Cold disorders, especially those in which Wind-Cold has constrained Lung Qi with cough and wheezing and the failure of Lung Qi to descend causing nausea and vomiting.

CONTRAINDICATIONS
HERB/DRUG INTERACTIONS
  • This formula treats nasal congestion, rhinitis and sinusitis as a result of a Wind Invasion or which remain after the signs of Wind have disappeared.
  • With modifications, this formula is also used for allergic rhinitis which is not associated with an External Invasion.
For signs of Cold such as clear nasal discharge, chills and a tight pulse: For signs of Heat such as thick yellow nasal discharge, thirst, a hot sensation in the nose and a rapid pulse:
