  1. This herb is very useful for Spleen Deficient diarrhea because it astringes and tonifies at the same time.
  2. It is primarily used in treating Deficiency states with excessive fluid loss.
  3. Long term consumption of this herb lightens the body, slows aging, assuages hunger and extends life.
  4. This herb makes the tendons and bones strong, facilitates hearing and vision, expels Cold-Dampness, stops Spleen diarrhea, red and white turbid urine and all vaginal discharge and bleeding disorders in women.
  5. The Heart of the Lotus Seed cools Heart Fire and cools Kidney Fire.
  6. Taken alone, the Lotus Seed Heart Lian Zi Xin treats fever with thirst, palpitations, sleep loss and high blood pressure. The dosage is 1.5-3g.
  7. Both Lian Zi and Sm. Euryales Qian Shi are seeds that tonify and bind, with sweet, neutral and astringent properties. They both enter the Spleen and Kidneys to tonify those organs and treat chronic diarrhea and spermatorrhea. Qian Shi also eliminates Dampness and is better at treating Deficiency disorders in which Dampness predominates, such as vaginal discharge. Lian Zi nourishes the Heart, reestablishes communication between the Heart and Kidneys and treats incessant uterine bleeding.
  8. Both Lian Zi and Rz. Dioscoreae Shan Yao are sweet, neutral, astringent, enter and strengthen the Spleen and Kidneys and astringe the Intestines and Lower Jiao. They are often combined to treat diarrhea due to Spleen or Kidney Deficiency leading to spermatorrhea, enuresis or vaginal discharge. Shan Yao enters the Lung channel to tonify Lung Yin, stopping coughs due to Deficiency consumption. It is primarily a tonic, augmenting both Qi and Yin of the Lungs, Spleen and Kidneys. Lian Zi also nourishes the Heart, calms the Spirit, stops bleeding and is often used to reestablish communication between the Heart and Kidneys which has led to palpitations, insomnia, spermatorrhea, deficient irritability, wasting and thirsting disorder and bleeding disorders such as hematuria or incessant uterine bleeding.
  9. Fresh Lotus Flesh Xian Lian Rou has a pure aroma and a strong Qi with a strong cooling quality to treat internal pathogenic Heat causing disharmony of the Stomach Qi.
  10. Dry-fried Lotus Flesh Chao Lian Rou is somewhat warm and stronger at augmenting the Spleen and harmonizing the Stomach.
  11. Stone Lotus Seed Shi Lian Zi is bitter and cold and eliminates Damp-Heat, clears the Heart and unbinds the Stomach. It is used for Heat toxin and vomiting and dysenteric diarrhea with inability to eat or drink and painful urinary dysfunction.
  12. Covered Stone Lotus Qian Shi Lian is stronger at astringing the Intestines and stopping diarrhea. It is used for uncontrollable, long-term diarrhea and chronic dysenteric disorders. It is used as a stand-alone herb, powdered and washed down with a soup made from aged rice to treat chronic, incessant diarrhea.
  13. Stone Lotus Flesh Shi Lian Rou is used for sudden illnesses with an overabundant accumulation of newly-contracted pathogenic Heat. It is used as a stand-alone herb for vomiting and diarrhea with inability to eat or drink.
  14. Caulis Nelumbinis He Geng is bitter, neutral, regulates chest Qi and most effectively treats feelings of chest congestion caused by Dampness in the summer.
  15. Calyx Nelumbinis He Di is bitter and sweet, clears Summerheat, harmonizes the Middle Jiao, calms restless fetus and treats diarrhea and dysentery with Blood and mucus.
  16. Receptaculum Nelumbinis Lian Fang is bitter, astringent and warm, enters the Blood level, disperses Blood Stagnation, stops bleeding and treats uterine bleeding, hematuria and hemafecia. It also treats hemorrhoids, rectal prolapse and eczema.
  17. Nodus Nelumbinis Rhizomatis Ou Jie is sweet, astringent and neutral and disperses Blood Stagnation.
